Doug McCarthy Presented with Chief’s Award by Middletown Volunteer Fire & Rescue

WINCHESTER, Virginia – Doug McCarthy, CEO and co-founder of McCarthy & Akers, PLC, was recently presented with the “Chief’s Award” by Middletown Volunteer Fire & Rescue Co. Fire Chief, Mark Dalton, presented the award in appreciation for the continuing support McCarthy has shown to the Fire Department through his work on the Frederick County Board of Supervisors. McCarthy’s father, Joseph McCarthy, was a founding member of Reynolds Store Volunteer Fire Company.

“I grew up in the shadow of fire engines and rescue vehicles. Memories of my formative years are punctuated with the sound of the fire scanner my father kept in our kitchen. It was not unusual to see my dad jump up from the dinner table, leaving his plate behind, to run out and answer a call to help our neighbors fight a fire or attend to an emergency medical situation. His example taught me the importance of volunteering and supporting those who risk their lives to come to the aid of our community,” says McCarthy. “It has been my privilege to serve the people of Frederick County on the Board of Supervisors and a distinct privilege to ensure the continued support of our local fire and rescue companies.”

Middletown Fire Company was organized and chartered on April 27, 1942, in response to a devastating fire that nearly destroyed the entire block where the station and the former Wayside Theatre now stand. The organization’s initial membership consisted of twenty-two men.

The Company changed its name to Middletown Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company, Inc. in the late 1960s. In 1992, the Company commemorated its 50th anniversary of community service by dedicating a building addition that more than doubled the station’s size. A social hall and kitchen were added, as well as an engine room, bunk rooms, a day room, a communication room, and an office.

Since 1942, the members of Middletown Volunteer Fire and Rescue have maintained a consistently high level of service thanks to the dedicated support of the community. As a professional emergency services organization, they are dedicated to continually improving the quality of services provided to Middletown and Frederick County residents, businesses, and visitors. Middletown Volunteer Fire and Rescue provides competent and professional fire, rescue, and emergency services to Middletown and Frederick County citizens while ensuring their members’ safety, education, and well-being.
