Matthew S. Akers is a founding partner of McCarthy & Akers, PLC, where he provides strategic legal counsel in real estate, estate planning, corporate law, and zoning, planning, and land use. With a deep understanding of complex legal frameworks, he helps businesses, individuals, and communities navigate critical legal matters with clarity and confidence.

Mr. Akers earned his Juris Doctor from Ave Maria School of Law, where he served as Executive Solicitations Editor of the Ave Maria Law Review. Following law school, he had the distinct honor of clerking for the Honorable James L. Ryan of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Christendom College, where he majored in Philosophy with minors in Economics and Theology.

His legal and public service experience extends to the highest levels of government, having worked for both the White House and the Office of the Deputy Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice. These roles provided him with invaluable insight into federal law, policy, and governance, shaping his ability to navigate complex legal and regulatory challenges.

A seasoned litigator and legal strategist, Mr. Akers is admitted to practice in Virginia, West Virginia, along with various federal district and bankruptcy courts throughout the country.

Beyond his legal practice, Mr. Akers is a dedicated entrepreneur and problem-solver. He owns and operates a prestigious, award-winning winery, known for its commitment to excellence in craftsmanship and sustainability. His expertise in land use, zoning, and business development gives him a unique perspective in both the legal and entrepreneurial worlds, allowing him to guide businesses with firsthand experience in growing and managing successful enterprises.
